Integrating Research into Emergency & Critical Care Departments

Our Emergency Department (ED) in Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) is one of the biggest and busiest in Europe. We see around 500 patients each day and are the regional Major Trauma Centre. We are dedicated to delivering the highest quality evidence-based care to all our patients.  An essential part of this is our involvement in research.

We offer our patients rapid access to ground-breaking treatments via our involvement in many of the most important UK research studies. But for many of our patients ED is only the first step in their care and so we coordinate many emergency trials in other specialities such as Critical Care, Medicine and Surgery with colleagues across the Trust. The range of studies we support in patient areas has increased rapidly over recent years. These studies and trials range from large multi-centre international drug trials to much smaller observational studies. We have helped collect data that have changed NHS emergency care, helped developed new devices and treatments and contributed towards providing the best and safest care to the people of Nottingham.

Our core team consists of four enthusiastic Consultants, a research manager and 12 experienced research nurses and research practitioners and our team is expanding further in 2021/2022. If you would like to work with us either to collaborate on delivering your research in Nottingham or to join our team, please contact individual members of the team (individual contact details can be found elsewhere in these research pages), email us or contact the NUH Research and Innovation department.

We look forward to hearing from you!
