This course is designed to help you better understand the journey of writing guidelines by taking you through the process of guideline production from beginning to end. It will cover a variety of topics including:

  • Defining clinical guidelines and their medico-legal implications;
  • Exploring clinical guidelines at different levels from international to local;
  • Strategies for gathering evidence and navigating situations where national guidelines are absent;
  • Structuring and drafting guidelines for successful ratification.
  • The evaluation of guidelines;
  • Understanding the triumvirate of guidelines, audit and education and why it is so important to improving patient care;

Throughout the day we will be utilising current guidelines and learners will have opportunity to consider their own role in writing clinical guidelines. The course will help you to critique and develop your work so we ask that you bring with you a guideline you have had involvement in to utilise. If you have not yet had any involvement then don’t worry, bring a guideline you use regularly and it will give you ideas for future projects.

**As part of your booking you will be given access to resources on our Moodle platform. We would ask that you use these to review a guideline you have written or have an interest in. We will be using this in one of the sessions on the day.

If you already have access to Moodle, please use your current credentials to login and access the resources.

All new users will be sent login details shortly after booking.

On the day of the course, please bring with you a guideline you may have written, are in the process of writing, have been involved with, or make use of. This will form the basis of some the activities, so would be ideal if it was something you were developing yourself. Not to worry if you don’t have anything though, we will have plenty of ideas for you to work with!**
