Course Overview
The Thoracotomy and Airway Course is designed to provide healthcare providers with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform thoracotomy and manage the airway in emergency situations. Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the candidate should be able to:
Explain the principles and decision-making involved when a resuscitative thoracotomy is indicated, working with the trauma team pre- thoracotomy and during resuscitative thoracotomy
Identify relevant anatomy specific to Resuscitative Thoracotomy Preparation needed for a resuscitative thoracotomy.
Perform the following procedures at a level appropriate to your level of training:
Clamshell thoracotomy
Opening the pericardium
Internal massage of the heart
Repairing a hole in the heart.
