This large prospective observation cohort study aims to measure the quality of care for children undergoing emergency abdominal surgery in NHS hospitals. The study will compare hospitals by measuring protocol compliance and recording important data related to the safety and quality of care. The study aims to recruit 5000 children to validate a risk prediction / adjustment tool and to determine the feasibility of a long term national programme of care improvement for these children.
