Course Overview
The one day cannulation course involves the taught theory of cannulation and a practical workshop. The day will include learning and discussion on:
- Anatomy & physiology
- Consent
- Local policy & procedure
- Infection control
- Cannulation equipment
- Documentation
Followed by a practical skills workshop, to consolidate learnt theory and practice, giving participants times to practice their new skill on our simulation, mannequin arms under the supervision and guidance of our skilled DREEAM course lead.
Who will benefit:
This one day course is aimed at Nurses, HCA’S, CSW’s, AHP’S, ACP’S, Medics, Physician Associates, GP’s, and Paramedics. It has been devised to support both primary and secondary care workers in learning the vital skill of cannulation.

DREEAM, A Floor, West Block, QMC Campus, Derby Road, Nottingham. NG7 2UH
Start and finish times:
Registration at 08:00 with a start time of 08:30 | Finish time at 16:00 | Breaks built into the course timetable.

Tea/Coffee will be provided
Please be aware after this course you will be required to complete an online e-learning module and ten supervised cannulations before clinical sign off, within your own clinical setting.
Please ensure that your line manager and a clinical area can support your competency sign off before attending the course, as this can not be supported by DREEAM.
IMPORTANT: On completion of this workshop you will be required to have your competency assessed before independent practice. Please ensure your clinical area can support this process before booking, as DREEAM are unable to facilitate this, thank you.

Faculty
The course lead is Kerry Laffan, however you could also be taught by Chloe Alvey, as they both teach Cannulation, Venepuncture and ECG.
